Bengaluru, Feb 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party lost the Delhi Assembly elections to freebies announced by the Aam Aadmi Party government and lack of suitable leader to challenge Arvind Kejriwal, said Karnataka BJP spokesperson G. Madhusudhana, here on Wednesday.
"As you have no match to Narendra Modi at the national level, we could not put up a match to Kejriwal," Madhusudhana told IANS.
Kejriwal's freebies, like free water and power, helped him defeat the BJP in Delhi where majority of the population belonged to middle and lower middle class," he said.
By winning 53.57 per cent vote, the AAP won 62 Assembly seats in the 70-member Assembly, relegating the BJP to just eight seats and 38.51 per cent votes.
According to him, Muslim votes consolidated in favour of the AAP and it also got Dalit votes, both constituting a sizeable chunk.
Madhusudhana also mocked the Congress for committing suicide in the Delhi in its attempt to defeat Modi. "Of course, Congress has committed suicide. I have never seen this," he said.
The Congress failed to win a single seat and its votes share declined to 4.26 per cent.
