MI junior cricket meet: Arif leads Vashi’s Anjuman-I-Islam to win

Mumbai, Feb 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Skipper Arif Khan came up with a brilliant all-round performance to guide Anjuman-I-Islam Abdul Azim Khatkhatay, Vashi to a comfortable 57-run win in the Under 14 Boys match of Mumbai Indians Junior cricket tournament at LIC, Cross Maidan on Monday.

Khan played an unbeaten knock of 51 and followed it up with three wickets with the ball to help his school crush Anjuman-I-Islam Mustafa Fakih Urdu High School, Turbhe.

Player of the Match, Arif Khan's half-century enabled Vashi based school to post fighting total of 153 on the board before getting bowled out in 30.3 overs.

Batsman Mehtab Shah chipped in with 20 runs to emerge the second-best contributor in the team.

The skipper then rolled his arm effectively along with his other team-mates to bamboozle the batsmen from Turbhe. The Urdu High School batsmen succumbed to the consistent pressure posed by the Vashi bowlers, eventually being shot out for a mere score of 96 in 19.3 overs.

At the nearby Sunder CC pitch, Vibgyor High, ICSE (Goregaon) bowler Chirag Vakil spun a web over SVKM J.V. Parekh International School batsmen to star in his team's thrilling two-wicket win.

Vakil sneaked in four wickets to play a key role in restricting J.V. Parekh to 113 all-out after 28.4 overs. Vibgyor batsmen were made to work hard for their runs. The target of 114 seemed getting stiffer at one point of time due to the loss of regular wickets but Sanshray Saraf (31) and Ashish Chhugani (21) played crucial knocks to ensure the chase was on, helping their team to win despite hiccups.

Vakil was later adjudged 'Player of the Match' for his destructive bowling performance.
