Congress candidates are in bitter fight to reclaim ground

New Delhi, Feb 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Almost Congress candidates in Delhi are locked in bitter contests with their rivals in their constituencies with no cake walks.

Senior leaders in triangular contests involving the ruling AAP and BJP include A.K. Walia from Krishannagar and Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar. Similar is the case with Haroon Yusuf who is in the fray from Ballimaran (Old Delhi), and Parvez Hashmi in Okhla. All of them were ministers during the Congress rule.

Alka Lamba, who switched from AAP, is contesting from Chandni Chowk.

The Congress has put up several new faces, including Shivani Chopra, daughter of DPCC chief Subhash Chopra, who is contesting from Kalkaji. Poonam Azad, wife of party's campaign committee chairman Kirti Azad, is fighting from Sangam Vihar.

Sons and daughters of some party leaders are also in the fray. They include Priyanka Singh, daughter of former Speaker Yoganand Shastri (from R.K. Puram) and Ali Mehdi, son of former MLA Hasan Ahmed (from Mustafabad).

Young leaders such as Radhika Khera from Janakpuri, Abhishek Dutta from Kasturba Nagar and Rocky Tuseed -- the youngest candidate -- from Rajendra Nagar is challenging AAP's Raghav Chaddha.

The Congress has also relied on some old loyalists including five-time MLA Mateen Ahmed (Seelampur) and Krishna Tirath (Patel Nagar) who returned from BJP and Amrish Gautam, former deputy speaker who too returned from BJP and Bhisham Singh from Ghonda.
