‘People getting restive due to delay in justice to Nirbhaya’

New Delhi, Feb 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Calling for implementation of the judgement in the Nirbhaya case at the earliest, Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said that people are getting restive due to delay in justice.

"People (culprits) have been given every available legal opportunity. After getting all those avenues and opportunities exhausted, on some pretext or the other if things are postponed, people are becoming restive," Naidu said.

The Chairman gave the observation after Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh raised the issue of delay in hanging of the convicts of Nirbhaya case.

Speaking during Zero Hour in the Upper House, Singh said that the culprits had no right to live and sought intervention of the House Chairman in the case to ensure that justice is done.

"I urge you the Honourable Chairman to intervene in the case. I pray you with folded hands that you please go to the President of India to ensure that the culprits must be hanged immediately," Singh said.

The AAP leader said that it was very unfortunate that after the judgement and sentencing in the case, dates after dates are being given (for hanging).

The Upper House on Tuesday again witnessed disruptions with members from the opposition Congress and Trinamool raising slogans against the government. They were on their feet and some of them came to the well shouting 'Goli marna band karo' (Stop firing bullets) and 'Modi teri Hitlersahi, nahin chalegi' (We won't allow dictatorship).

Amid shouting and sloganeering by the members, the Zero Hour continued in the House with members raising issues of national importance. Some of the members including CPI leader Binoy Viswam raised the issue of coronavirus and the need for an action plan to contain its outbreak.
