Mumbai, Feb 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) The father of music maestro Zakir Hussain and tabla legend, Ustad Allarakha, fondly known as "Abbaji" by one and all, regaled millions of music lovers worldwide. A musical get-together on Monday will pay tribute to him on his 20th death anniversary.
The event "A Homage to Abbaji - Ustad Allarakha" which began right from his first 'barsi' on February 3, 2001, as a tribute to a great master, a revered guru, and a doting father, comes back this year.
The iconic event is in its 20th year and has become one of the highlights in the musical performances calendar. It will see artistes from across the globe, coming together to remember, pay homage and celebrate the centenary year of legendary guru and tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha.
"This is the closing of the centenary year of my father, and the beginning of the centenary of Pandit Ravi Shankar. They were very close friends, and together they made Indian music a global household name," Zakir Hussain said.
He added: "Through these 20 years, we have had the good fortune of having some of the greatest luminaries of Indian music bless this occasion along with masters representing many musical and rhythmic traditions from all across the globe."
The day will have three sessions curated by hum featuring renowned artistes and students of Ustad Allarakha Institute of Music.
