Taapsee Pannu who is gearing up with her next release refutes the comparison with Kabir Singh and says that her film Thappad is not a reply to Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer block-buster.
Taapsee Pannu was interacting with media during a press-junket for Thappad, which his helmed by Anubhav Sinha. The film revolves around a married woman seeking divorce from her husband for slapping her.
Sandeep Vanga directorial Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani faced a lot of heat for endorsing physical violence in a relationship.
Now Anubhav Sinha’s directorial Thappad is stark opposite and give the fact, Taapsee slammed Kabir Singh for endorsing physical abuse in relationship has sparked a whole new debate, whether Thappad is a reply to Kabir Singh.
So when asked about Thappad being a reply to Kabir Singh, Taapsee said, “Comparison is not upsetting with Kabir Singh, but people would start thinking that we have made this film for Kabir Singh. I feel bad that you have made my film so small in comparison that I have made a film to give out a reply to another film”
“Thappad was written before Kabir Singh got released, and this thappad or slap, is just a trigger, there is a hell lot more which will open up about relationship and you have just reduced by film to the a mere reply to Kabir Singh”
“Yes, something took place in Kabir Singh which doesn’t gel well with the ideology of our film, but do you really think it hasn’t before with other films, where ideology didn’t match and there are more than 1000 films where women have been slapped, so it’s not something new that has happened in Kabir Singh. So it is trivializing my film saying that it is an answer to Kabir Singh, because it is way beyond” added Taapsee.
The film also stars Pavail Gulati, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Dia Mirza, Ram Kapoor, Kumud Mishra, Manav Kaul and Gracy Goswami in pivotal roles.
The film is slated for 28th Feb 2020 release.
