Filmmaker H. E. Amjad Khan, who has directed a film named ‘Gul Makai’ based a on life of Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai has hit out at Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan by saying that he is talking like illiterate people over his remark that Bollywood films is one of reasons behind growing sex crimes in Pakistan. He also added that Imran Khan, his government and people of Pakistan should come out of fundamentalist mentality.
H. E. Amjad Khan was interacting with the media to promote ‘Gul Makai’ on Thursday in Mumbai.
In yet another dim allegation on India, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has claimed that Bollywood movies are one of the reasons behind the rise in sex crimes in Pakistan.
In a YouTube address, Khan blamed the content from Bollywood and Hollywood for the spurt in sex crimes relating to paedophilia and child pornography in the country.
Reacting to Imran Khan’s statement, Khan said, “I used to be a fan of Imran Khan when he used to play Cricket for Pakistan but as a political leader, I feel his performance is really bad. He is talking like illiterate people. He (Imran Khan) should have become a Cricket coach but I don’t understand why he took such a big post (Prime Minister). People of Pakistan have become aware of things after watching Indian films like ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘Lagaan’.”
As a young girl, Malala Yousafzai defied the Taliban in Pakistan and demanded that girls be allowed to receive an education. She was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in 2012 but survived. In 2014, she became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Khan also criticized Pakistani government for funding terrorist organizations, he said, “Malala (Yousafzai) belonged to your country but you (Pakistan Government) gave 200 million dollars to a man like Muhammad Fazlullah (leader of militant group named Tehreek-e-Taliban) and then, he started his radio station and said that ‘girls will not be allowed to go to schools’ and you (Imran Khan) don’t feel ashamed of that and you keep talking about such things. You haven’t been able to stabilize your country.”
Khan said that an Indian filmmaker made a film on Malala Yousafai who belonged to Pakistan, he said, “During Balakot airstrike, our one soldier (Abhinandan Varthaman) landed on your land and you tapped on your back by saying said that ‘we are sending Abhinandan to India’ despite of knowing provisions of Geneva Convention. After that, your country’s media reported that you are seeking Nobel Peace Prize for it. I want to tell you that we have made a film Malala Yousafzai which is called ‘Gul Makai’. She has won Nobel Peace Prize and she is the peace ambassador of United Nations. She is considered as one of young world leaders but India has made a film on her life. So, you shouldn’t talk on unnecessary issues. Your country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is not in a good condition and your economy is collapsing so, you should focus on those things.”
Khan also criticized Pakistan government for ill-treating their Nobel Prize Winners, he said, “A girl (Malala Yousafzai) was hit by a bullet on her head and she has been praised by the entire world and she was conferred with Nobel Peace Prize but do you ever feel that you should call her back in your country? Recently, she visited her house (in Pakistan) and only two news channels covered that and you (Imran Khan) didn’t even met her. I spoke to her about it and she told me that ‘I couldn’t get the opportunity to meet any minister and I just did 2-3 interviews and came back’. So, you should think where are you standing and what kind of things you are saying?”
Khan added, “Before Malala, a man like Abdus Salam won the first Nobel Prize for your country but you ill-treated him as well by saying that ‘you are from Western culture and we will not let you live in Pakistan’ so, you should get out of fundamentalist mentality. Entire world has progressed a lot so, please you should also do that.”
Popular Indian television child actress Reem Shaikh makes her film debut, playing the lead role of Malala in 'Gul Makai'.
The film also features the late Om Puri (in his final film), Divya Dutta, Atul Kulkarni, Mukesh Rishi and Pankaj Tripathi.
The film releases on 31st January 2020.
