New Delhi, Jan 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Slamming IRCTC's decision to remove local Malayali cuisine from its menu and raising the prices of South Indian food items, Kerala MP Binoy Viswam on Wednesday asked the government to immediately review the move.
The Rajya Sabha member Viswam also said that prices of North Indian foods have remained unchanged and hence, it tantamounts to discrimination against the people of Kerala.
In a letter to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the CPI veteran has demanded to take immediate steps to reverse the changes by the IRCTC and restore the previous price of food items.
"I further hope that you will ensure such discriminatory practices do not take place in any part of this country and the organisation that you preside over as Railways Minister upholds the diverse and pluralistic culture of India," Binoy Viswam said.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) is ticketing and catering arm of Indian railways.
Objecting to the IRCTC move, the Kerala leader has noted that it is grossly incorrect for the imposition of a particular region's culture upon that of another, particularly in services operated by the central government.
"The Railways are the most popular mode of transport used by people of Kerala to travel both within the state and outside of it," Viswam emphasized.
