New Delhi, Jan 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Biodiesel maker BioD Energy on Friday said it has sold over 10 million litres of biodiesel within the first year of its plant operations.
In a statement here, Delhi-NCR based producer said its facility in Bawal, Haryana, has the capability to produce up to 120 kiloliters (kl) of biodiesel by processing used cooking oil and other multi-feedstock.
"Being one of the largest consumers of vegetable oil, India has the potential to recover 220 crore litres of used cooking oil by the year 2022 for biodiesel production through coordinated action," it said.
"BioD Energy is also a part of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India's (FSSAI) Repurpose Used Cooking Oil (RUCO) initiative, an ecosystem that strives to enable the collection and conversion of used cooking oil to biodiesel," it added.
Noting that the company is receiving spiralling demand from existing customers and acquiring new ones, BioD Energy group CEO Shiva Vig said the project aims at cutting imported crude oil dependence, fighting pollution, managing illegal discharge of oil into drainage systems and checking edible oil adulteration.
