Shimla, Jan 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) A special sitting of the 68-member Himachal Pradesh state legislative assembly was held on Tuesday to ratify a bill to extend reservation to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for another 10 years.
The bill was passed unanimously in the assembly after a brief discussion.
The reservation for SCs, STs and Anglo Indians given for the past 70 years in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies was due to end on January 25, 2020, necessitating the Constitution Amendment Bill.
Parliament recently passed the Constitution Amendment Bill in this regard and the legislation has to be ratified by state legislatures before it becomes a law.
Before the bill was passed, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, in his customary address to the legislators, said since this session had been summoned for a particular purpose, he would not be going into much detail.
"I shall discuss the achievements of the government in detail in my address scheduled for the ensuing Budget session," he said.
