Actor Deepika Padukone reached the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday evening to show solidarity with students protesting recent violence on the campus. She was spotted standing with the students at the Sabarmati T- Point, as the demonstrators raised the slogan of "Jai Bhim-Jai Bhim". Deepika was seen greeting the students injured in the campus attacks and everyone else with folded hands. The actress didn't make any statement at the event, however, her presence was more than enough.
After the Bollywood actor joined the JNU protest, Delhi BJP spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga called for boycotting her movies.
"RT if you will Boycott Movies of @deepikapadukone for her Support to #TukdeTukdeGang and Afzal Gang," he tweeted.
Deepika is in the capital to promote her upcoming release, Meghna Gulzar-directed "Chhapaak".
Several Bollywood celebrities including Swara Bhasker, Shabana Azmi, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Taapsee Pannu, along with filmmakers Aparna Sen and Hansal Mehta condemned the violence and urged Delhi Police to intervene. They reacted to the violence through the social media platform.
The incident occurred on Sunday, when masked goons, armed with sticks and stones, barged into Delhi's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University campus on Sunday evening and beat up students and teachers, spreading chaos and terror. Students, mostly from Left-backed unions, and five teachers were injured and hospitalized.
