Delhi polls: Amit Shah targets AAP on Twitter

New Delhi, Jan 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) As the EC announced the date for the Delhi Assembly election, Union Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah has set the tone by upping the ante against the AAP government.

Urging the people of Delhi to come out in large numbers to vote, in a series of tweets, Shah expressed hope that they will vote against the AAP for allegedly failing to keep its promises.

"I am confident that through this 'mahaparva' (festival) of democracy, they will choose the government which fulfils the aspirations of the people of Delhi under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi by defeating those who misled them for five years by making only hollow promises," Shah tweeted.

Claiming that the AAP government only made "promises" and spent a huge amount in the last three months splurging on advertisements, Shah took a dig at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying, "People of Delhi are still looking for free WiFi, 1.5 million CCTV cameras, new colleges and hospitals."

All these have been poll promises of the Aam Aadmi Party. Earlier in the day while inaugurating the cycle walk in Tughlakabad area, Shah highlighted the fact that Delhi is yet to see Kejriwal's promise of equipping the national capital with CCTVs.

In a no-holds-barred attack on the AAP, the BJP chief said, "This election is the election of the poor to fulfil their dream of a 'pucca' house. It is an election to remove those who snatched their right to free treatment by not implementing Ayushman Bharat. It is also an election to clean up vote bank politics that disturbed the peace of Delhi."

Shah was referring to the violent protests across Delhi over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act.

In his tweet, he appealed to BJP's Delhi cadres to not only spread the welfare works done by the Modi government but also to "expose" the "truth" of AAP-led Delhi government.

The BJP has kicked off a door-to-door campaign across the nation to counter the opposition's narrative on CAA. Shah now wants Delhi cadres to additionally use the opportunity to campaign for the party in the national capital.

The Election Commission on Monday announced February 8 as the date for Delhi Assembly election. The model code of conduct comes into effect immediately, said the EC.

The BJP is desperate to taste power in the national capital, where it has been in the cold for nearly the last two decades. The ruling AAP, which won 67 out of 70 seats last time, is hopeful of returning to power in 2020 as well.
