ABVP supporters from DU reach JNU to show solidarity

New Delhi, Jan 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hundreds of RSS affiliate Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists from Delhi University (DU) gathered near the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday to show solidarity with their members attacked on Sunday.

The ABVP activists arrived at Baba Gang Nath Marg, however, they were stopped about 100 meters away from JNU's gate no 1.

But more ABVP supporters managed to come in front of the JNU main gate from Munirka village side.

The ABVP raised slogans like "Red terror down down" and others.

Following the arrival of more ABVP activists near the JNU main entrance, police deployed more security personnel to avoid a direct clash between the Left wing students and the ABVP members.

Earlier in the day, Congress leaders Sharmistha Mukherjee and Sushmita Deb met the students at the JNU campus.

Later a delegation of the Trinamool Congress led by former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi was turned back from Baba Gang Nath Marg and was not allowed to meet the JNU students.

On Sunday, violence swept the JNU as several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the varsity campus with wooden and metal rods.

Following the violence inside the JNU campus, the police has deployed a heavy force around the campus and also closed Baba Gang Nath Marg for traffic.

Two office-bearers of the Jawaharal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), including President Aishe Ghosh, were badly beaten up. They blamed the ABVP for the violence inside the campus.

Hostel rooms and lobbies were vandalised during the assault while several vehicles parked on the roads were damaged by the unidentified miscreants.

The situation turned violent after masked goons attacked a peace march by teachers and students against the violence on the campus.

Earlier, the ABVP had accused Left inclined students of vandalising the Periyar hostel and seriously injuring the students present inside the hostel.

Following the violence Delhi Police registered a FIR on the basis of the PCR calls it received from the students on Sunday evening for rioting and arson.
