New Delhi, Dec 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Seelampur in east Delhi was on Friday turned into a fortress with heavy police force deployment in the area, in apprehension of a fresh spell of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Police were apprehensive of violence after Friday prayers, but no untoward incident has been reported from the area so far.
Seelampur had last week witnessed large scale arson and unprecedented violence against the amended Citizenship Act. Hundreds of protesters had clashed with police, resulting in vehicles being damaged and stones being pelted at the cops.
Later, an FIR was filed against six people, allegedly involved with the violence.
Meanwhile, hundreds of activists on Friday held a demonstration in Jor Bagh area of south Delhi demanding the immediate release of Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad, who was arrested during the anti-CAA protest at Jama Masjid last week.
Meanwhile, Delhi's Uttar Pradesh Bhavan too witnessed massive police presence as it was expected to be besieged by Jamia Millia Islamia students to protest the police crackdown on anti-CAA protests. According to the Jamia Coordination Committee, the convener of CAA protest, the Uttar Pradesh government is "firing bullets" on the protesters agitating against the new citizenship law.
