The municipal polls in Telangana are all set to be held on 22 January. The dates for the entire process was announced on Monday evening by the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC), and elections will be held in 120 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations.
While the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), led by chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao is expected to do well, the municipal polls will also be a test for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been claiming that it is the main Opposition, a position that the Congress was largely seen donning until now.
According to the election notification released by the TSEC, the process to prepare the electoral rolls for the municipal polls will begin from 8 January next year, the date from when the nominations can be filed. The last day for filing nominations is 10 January, and last date for withdrawal of candidature is 14 January. After the election, the results will be declared on 25 January.
