Sridevi was an actor by observation, says Karan Johar.

Producer, Director Karan Johar who was recently seen at the launch of a book, ‘Sridevi - The Eternal Screen Goddess’, says that Sridevi is an actor by observation. He further added that she was the only actor of 80’s and 90’s who has upped her craft through observation. She had that potentiality of observing and absorbing the body languages of others. She was the best mimic in the world.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is an admirer of late actress Sridevi, unveiled the book ‘Sridevi - The Eternal Screen Goddess’. The book is based on the life of the Bollywood icon and the first female superstar here. The book is written by Satyarth Nayak and was earlier unveiled by actress Deepika Padukone and producer Boney Kapoor in Delhi. He was not seen in Mumbai during the launch, because he was still in the state of shock and was also held up in some of his work.

Sridevi was found unconscious in her bathtub, in Dubai, on February 24 2018 by her husband Boney Kapoor. The death certificate said that death was caused due to accidental drowning.
Discussing more about Sridevi initially knew only one south Indian language and when any question was directed to her she would say ‘ask mother’, Karan said, “I think this was a blown out of proportion, because in one interview she just said ‘ask mother’ and media titled her as ‘ask mother’. She didn’t like to communicate with anyone and  even didn’t like to do interviews to that extent. She pretty much knew on her own, what she was doing. I completely agree with Satyarth, saying Sridevi was an actor by observation. She was just incredible. She had that potentiality of observing and absorbing the body languages of others.

She was the best mimic in the world. She could just mimic anything and anything at all and it was due to  observation. She was the only actor of 80’s and 90’s who has upped her craft through observation. She absorbed her syntax of cinema of that time. Even after the gap of 15 years, in 2012 when she did the movie ‘English Vinglish’, She knew how to face the camera. I would go as far as saying, Sridevi was a genius artist, because it takes lots of genius to go through, what she did in so many films. Sridevi was a rare actor, who was top of her game in all the languages at the same time. Whether it was Tamil, Telugu or Hindi, she was on top. I must say a feat no other actor in India has achieved.”

‘Good Newz’ is an upcoming movie of Karan Johar. It is helmed by Raj Mehta, produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Arun Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shashank Khaitan starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani. It is scheduled to release on 27 December 2019.
