Bollywood Hosts A Peaceful Protest Against CAA In Mumbai

With an increasing number of protests around every state; citizens from all walks of life are taking to social media or roads to voice their opinion on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and now Bollywood celebrities such as Farhan Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Kabir Khan and many more graced the public protesting against the Citizenship Act at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan on Thursday.

Apart from social workers, political parties representatives, students and local mumbaikars, a smattering of Bollywood personalities, who made out a strong case against the Act and the NRC.

Celebrities such as Shibani Dandekar, Monica Dogra, Nikkhil Advani, Rakeysh Ompraksh Mehra, Anubhav Sinha, Swara Bhasker, Javed Jaffery, Kabir Khan, Mini Mathur, Neeraj Ghaywan, Danish Husain, Arjun Mathur, Sushant Singh, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and more were seen at the venue.

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, interacted with media and said, "As a citizen of the country and as somebody who was born and has grown up with a certain idea of India is, it is important for me to raise my voice...If everything was ok, why would so many people turn up? Not just in Mumbai, but Delhi, Assam, Bangalore, Hyderabad."

This is probably the first peaceful protest hosted by Bollywood celebrities in Mumbai, who has been facing flak on social media for not addressing the issue.

The Delhi recently witnessed the most violent police crackdown on the students of Jamia Millia Islamia University, has been constantly tweeting about the protests in India.
