A report from Jiribam said that over 200 Imphal-bound trucks loaded with essential commodities including some petroleum products carriers were stranding along the highway at Leingangpokpi of Jiribam bordering Tamenglong district.
Most of the trucks arrived at Jiribam yesterday after they were stranded for few days at various places of Assam owing to the raging anti-CAB protest, bandh, curfew etc. in the neighbouring state.
“The economic blockade has forced trucked to remain stranded again,” a driver of one of the stranded trucks said expressing displeasure on no security arrangements to allow them to pass the blockade area or to lift the economic blockade.
“We reached here facing the warlike situation in Assam with the hope of reaching Imphal once we cross Manipur-Assam border but we are left stranded here again,” a driver on condition of anonymity.
He strongly criticised the state government for ignoring the plights of the truck drivers saying that they have been transporting essential commodities for the state facing hardships while plying on the highway.
