New Delhi, Dec 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi Police Crime Branch will investigate the violence that took place during the protest by the Jamia Millia Islamia students, said Delhi Police spokesperson DCP Mandeep Singh Randhawa on Monday.

While talking to reporters at the Delhi Police headquarters, Randhawa denied that the police incited the violence. He said, "Some people were setting the vehicles ablaze and pelting stones. The police tried to get hold of the miscreants. Some of them ran away from the spot while some of them were arrested. Several others were also arrested on Sunday night during the raids conducted by the Delhi Police."

"Four buses and hundreds of vehicles including several vehicles of the Delhi Police were set ablaze by the crowd. Around 39 people were injured including policemen in the stone pelting. The injured have been admitted in hospital and medico legal reports have also been filed so that it doesn't hamper the investigation," added the Delhi Police spokesperson.

"Several policemen including a DCP of the Delhi Police were injured in the violence on Sunday at Jamia Nagar area and New Friends Colony. Two SHOs suffered fractures while one policeman is still battling for life in the ICU," he told reporters.

He avoided the question on the involvement of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in the violence and said that an investigation on various aspects will be carried out.

When asked whether tweets by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia incited the violence, Randhawa said, "Every aspect is being investigated. The investigation will be carried out by the Delhi Police Crime Branch and it will be too early to comment on anything on this until the investigation is done."
