New Delhi, Dec 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Normal life was affected in Guwahati and other parts of Assam following an 11-hour bandh call in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The bandh came into effect from 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
The North Eastern Students Organisation, a student umbrella organisation, had given the bandh call against the CAB, which Lok Sabha has cleared after it was tabled on Monday.
Although it has been clarified that the CAB will not apply in tribal areas in the region, various organisations in Assam and a few other states in the region have called a bandh against the CAB 19 alleging that it is an attack on their ethnic identity.
According to the statement issued by North East Frontier Railway, trains have been cancelled as protestors have blocked the rail tracks.
The CAB Bill seeks to grant Indian Citizenship to persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have migrated to India after facing persecution on grounds of religion in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, if they fulfil certain conditions.
