At a time when police department is under fire for its poor handling of the veterinarians' case who was later murdered and burnt, the Bureau of Police Research and Develpoment(BPRD) has came out with startling findings. It says Telangana has just one cop for every 760 people as against the national average of one cop for 518. But for one VIP in state, on an average, there are 14 cops at his disposal.
While the total sanctioned strength of state police (as on January 2018) is 76,407, the state has only 46,062. In effect, there are more than 30,000 vacancies.
