Srinagar, Nov 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Jammu and Kashmir police "inadvertently" forwarded a file to media houses with a list of Twitter accounts being monitored by them since the August 5 abrogation of special status to the state.
The email received from the Police Media Centre on Friday evening was a press release containing information about the arrest of three drug peddlers from Budgam district and seizure of contraband substances. The mail had three attachments, with two containing photographs of the drug bust carried out by police in Bonpora, Budgam.
However, an eight-page document titled DNA Sep.docx was also attached, which caught the eye of media persons. The document included screenshots of twitter posts of activists, journalists and international media organisations on Kashmir.
Later, the police sent an email saying the file with screengrabs of Twitter accounts had been "inadvertently" sent to journalists in the Valley and advised them to "ignore this attachment".
One of the twitter screenshots was of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan dated September 19, in which he talked about the situation in the Valley.
There was also a twitter screenshot of Kashmiri activist Shehla Rashid in which she talks of alleged human rights violations in Kashmir. There were also screenshots of twitter posts by Radio Pakistan, Samaa channel and ARY News and Turkish news channel, TRT World and Germany-based DW News.
