Carlsen extends lead, Anand falls further behind

Kolkata, Nov 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) World champion Magnus Carlsen extended his lead by three points as Viswanathan Anand fell further behind on the second day of the Tata Steel Rapid and blitz chess tournament here on Saturday. Five-time world champion Anand won one, lost one and drew one in what was another mixed day for him.

With six points, Anand is in joint third spot with China's Ding Liren and the Netherlands' Anish Giri. Wesley So and Hikaru Nakamura (both US) both share second spot with seven points while Carlsen has 10 points.

Anand was brilliant against his first opponent, Armenia's Levon Aronian. He took white and employed the Italian game, improving his position consistently before staging a better endgame. Anand then kept Nakamura at bay but he slipped up in his next match against Giri.
