India have all bases covered, stand good chance at World T20: Bayliss

By Aakash Kumar

Abu Dhabi, Nov 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Former England coach Trevor Bayliss believes the current Indian team has got all its bases covered and that's why they stand a good chance in next year's World T20 slated to be held in Australia.

According to Bayliss -- who coached the Three Lions to their maiden 50-over World Cup trophy earlier this year -- all the departments of the current Indian team need to click together if they have to win their second World T20 trophy.

"I think it's just experience. India have got some really good players. I think over the last couple of years, they have been honing their team work. I think they have got most bases covered," Bayliss told IANS when asked about things Indian team needs to do to break the jinx of winning an ICC trophy.

"They have batters performing at the top of the order, through the middle. The bowlers are performing in all the phases of the game. It all just needs to click together.

"They would be going to Australia having won last year. So, that would be a confidence booster for them. I fully expect Australia, England and India to be three teams of the top four at next year's World T20," he added.

Even though the Men in Blue have been consistent over the past few years, they have failed to win an ICC trophy since 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy under M.S. Dhoni. In this year's 50-over World Cup, they topped the round-robin stage. However, they failed to take that form in the semi-final where they lost to New Zealand and bowed out of the competition.

According to World Cup winning former England coach, the current Indian pace battery -- which consists of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav -- has performed well not just in India but in overseas conditions, a big reason for the dominance of Virat Kohli's men in Test cricket in last two-three years.

"India have a good bowling attack. They have some outstanding pacers. They have good spinners as well. They have one of the best bowling attacks in the world. It's nothing surprising as they have a lot of good players to pick from," said Bayliss.

When asked to pick best pacers across the world, the 56-year-old said: "Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood for Australia are very good. Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah are also right up there. They bowl well not just in their own conditions but overseas as well. They performed well in Australia and England as well."

Bayliss is currently serving as the head coach of Team Abu Dhabi in the ongoing third edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 league. Talking about the format, he said, "T10 will enhance all other forms of the games."

"When ODI came, it enhanced Test cricket, similarly T20 cricket enhanced 50-over formats and I am sure T10 will enhance T20 cricket."
