Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Monday invited Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the third-largest party, to indicate willingness and ability of his party to form the government in the state after the Shiv Sena could not submit the requisite letter of support from the alliance partners.
The Governor also gave NCP 24 hours to submit their letter of support to form the government. Addressing the press conference, state unit NCP president Jayant Patil told reporters that the party will discuss the issue with Congress and get back to the Governor by 8:30 pm on Tuesday.
"As per the procedure, the governor has given us a letter being the third-largest party in the state of Maharashtra and therefore, we have suggested to him that we will have to talk to our alliance partner," Patil told reporters.
However, despite the impasse in government formation in Maharashtra entering the 18th day with the looming prospects of the President's rule, the Congress appeared not wanting to take a hasty decision to align with its ideological rival - Shiv Sena.
