Chennai, Nov 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Political parties in Tamil Nadu on Saturday gave a mixed reaction to the Supreme Court's judgement in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title case, with some welcoming it and some speaking against it.
The apex court on Saturday delivered its judgement in the long pending case whereby it ordered the Central government to form a trust to build and maintain a temple on the 2.77 acre land which was under dispute.
The court also ordered allotment of five acres of land at an alternate site to the Muslims for building a mosque.
In a statement issued here DMK President M.K. Stalin said the apex court has found a solution for a long pending dispute.
Stalin said he believes that the judgement will be accepted by all and will maintain communal harmony.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) National President K.M. Kader Mohideen said there is no necessity now to deliberate on the pros and cons of the apex court's judgement.
He said the need of the hour is to respect and accept the court judgement and take steps to implement the same.
On the other hand, the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), another Muslim party, took a different stand on the issue.
"The Supreme Court's verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title case has opened a Pandora's box as it was based on the people's belief, and the heart burning judgement' is full of contradictions," M. H. Jawahirullah, President of MMK, told IANS.
He said the judgement has set a wrong precedent and may pave the way for such claims in other places like Mathura, Kashi.
"The Muslim community had faith in the country's judicial system and had always approached the court in the Babri Masjid case. However, the Supreme Court judgement has disappointed us," Jawahirullah said, adding the judgement was also full of contradictions.
He referred to the point in which the Supreme Court said the destruction of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 was an illegal act. The apex court also said that no temple was demolished to build the Babri Masjid.
"On the whole it is a heart burning judgement which goes against the very idea of a secular India," he said.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President and Lok Sabha member Thol Thirumavalavan said the apex court decision seems to be a peace initiative and not an attempt to uphold justice.
Tweeting on the judgement Thirumavalavan said the order to allot five acres of land to Muslims is not an attempt to uphold justice but an attempt to bring about peace.
He also wondered why there was no separate trust for building and maintaining the mosque at the new place like the creation of a trust by the central government for building and running the Ram temple.
Thirumavalavan tweeted that based on the beliefs of the Hindus, assigning the entire disputed land to them shows political interference.
He said that in the interest of harmony in the country and in the community all should maintain peace.
The Tamil Nadu Unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) urged all to respect the apex court's decision and maintain peace.
Movie actor Rajinikanth said he respects the judgement and urged others to do the same.
Meanwhile the ruling AIADMK is yet to come out with its views on the verdict.
In the morning ahead of the verdict Chief Minister K.Palaniswami appealed to the religious and political leaders to extend their cooperation to keep the state peaceful.
