Amaravati, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hong Kong-based Intelligent SEZ Development Ltd on Wednesday proposed to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for footwear manufacturing in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 700 crore. The facility will have job potential for 10,000 people, mostly women.
A delegation of top officials from Intelligent called on Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Wednesday, according to Chief Minister's Office.
The company plans to start the first phase with investment of approximately Rs 350 crore within five years from the date of obtaining SEZ approval. Remaining investment will be made to set up additional facilities.
Intelligent is a 100 per cent subsidiary owned by Intelligent Investment Ltd, which is an associate partner of Apache Footwear and claims to be an exclusive supplier of footwear to global footwear brand Adidas.
Meanwhile, a delegation from Singapore met Andhra Pradesh Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Information Technology, Mekapati Goutham Reddy and discussed skill development training programmes.
The minister explained to the six-member delegation the government's plans to set up a skill development training centre in every parliament constituency. "Soon, we will set up 25 skill development centres in the state and train the unemployed so that they will be capable of establishing the industries by their own," he said.
He briefed the Singapore officials about the Chief Minister's decision to reserve 75 per cent jobs for locals.
