RTC driver Sri Srinivas Reddy's martyrdom is heartbreaking. It is very unfortunate. Srinivas, who is working in Khammam bus depot, doused himself in kerosene on Saturday afternoon and attempted suicide. He was rescued with the intervention of his colleagues. His life would have been saved if the people's representatives intervened and spoke to him. It is disheartening to note that he is charred to death in front of his wife and children. While undergoing treatment with 80 percent burns, he says shedding tears that "where the RTC workers are happy?" It indicates how he is so worried about the threat of losing a job and also the indifferent attitude of the government. The incident is unfortunate even after the much-anticipated formation of Telangana State. We can provide compensation but can we provide him to his family? Can we replace his absence? The leaders in the government must think of it.
A news report that another RTC worker Ravi also attempted suicide at Narasannapeta depot in Warangal district is also causing concern. The Telangana Government must react immediately and set right the things. It must take steps to instill courage among the RTC workers. It is the responsibility of the government as well as the people's representatives to ensure that not even a single life is lost further. The government must call the RTC unions for deliberations to withdraw their strike. I appeal to all the RTC workers not to take any extreme steps.
