40 Attorneys General to join anti-trust probe against Facebook

San Francisco, Oct 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Nearly 40 state attorneys general are set to join probe against Facebook's anti-competitive business practices.

They met officials from the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in Washington, DC, on Monday, reports Market Watch.

"We held bipartisan conversations with attorneys general from around the country and key officials at both the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission about our investigation into Facebook," New York Attorney General Letitia James was quoted as saying.

A bipartisan coalition led by New York attorney general has launched an investigation into Facebook to understand whether it stifled competition and put users at risk.

"I'm launching an investigation into Facebook to determine whether their actions endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers' choices, or increased the price of advertising," James had tweeted.

In a stern warning to tech giants, the US House antitrust committee has opened probes into Facebook, Google, Apple, Amazon and other tech giants to determine if they prevent competition and hurt consumers.

The investigation's core is the idea that "the Internet is broken".
