Avinash in steeplechase final at Worlds after appeal


Doha, Oct 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Avinash Sable was on Tuesday included in the final of the men's 3000m steeplechase event at the World Athletics Championships after his appeal against two incidents were successful, the Athletics Federation of India tweeted.

"Avinash included in finals after India's successful appeal," the tweet read.

Avinash, 24, broke his own national record but failed to qualify for the final initially. He clocked 8:25:23 minutes to finish seventh in Heat 3 and 20th overall out of 44 athletes who completed the race. The top three in each of the three heats and the next six fastest runners qualified for the final race.

His earlier national record was 8:28.94 set during the Federation Cup earlier this year.

Avinash had to overcome hurdles during his race as he was blocked by reigning junior world champion Takele Nigate of Ethiopia and had to virtually climb up the obstacle, thereby losing time.

He also had to jump over another competitor as four-five athletes at the rear fell over each other. While he was not included in the final tally, he protested against these incidents which were was accepted, leading him to make the cut for the final.
