Lahore, Sep 15 (IANS) A team of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) was attacked here for stopping the broadcast of Indian TV channels and programmes on cable TV, reports said on Sunday.
According to reports published in a Pakistani media, a complaint was lodged on the Pakistan Citizens Portal that in some areas of Lahore, cable operators are illegally broadcasting Indian TV programmes and other content on DTH. Acting on the complaint, PEMRA's Prevention Squad reached the area to take action, but was attacked by the cable operators and their associates.
A large number of police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident, but the attackers had fled. A manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers.
Indian channels, shows and films have been banned in Pakistan after rising tensions over Kashmir issue.
In another related incident, the National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) has issued a notification banning Indian TV shows, films and other content in public vehicles plying on all highways and motorways.
