Disney CEO Bob Iger quits Apple board

San Francisco, Sep 14 (IANS) Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger has resigned from Apple's board of directors as the two companies are preparing to launch competing streaming services.

According to an Apple to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Iger quit on September 10, the day Apple announced price and release date of its streaming service.

"I have the utmost respect for Tim Cook, his team at Apple and for my fellow board members," Iger said in a statement, published by The Hollywood Reporter.

"Apple is one of the world's most admired companies, known for the quality and integrity of its products and people, and I am forever grateful to have served as a member of the company's board," he said.

Iger first joined Apple's board in 2011, a month after the death of Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Disney was one of the first major companies to develop apps for iPhones and iPads.

"While we will greatly miss his contributions as a board member, we respect his decision, and we have every expectation that our relationship with both Bob and Disney will continue far into the future," Apple said in a statement.
