All Ethiopian Airlines crash victims identified: Interpol

Addis Ababa, Sep 15 (IANS) The Interpol has announced the successful completion of the identification procedures of all victims of the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash in March this year that killed all 157 people on board.

"The Interpol Incident Response Team (IRT) deployed following the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines plane in March has completed its task, assisting with the successful identification of all victims of the deadly disaster," Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday citing the France-based agency as saying in a statement.

The Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 plane crashed shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa on March 10, eventually killing all 157 passengers and flight crew members from 35 countries aboard the Nairobi-bound flight.

The Interpol, which has been helping with efforts to identify all victims of the tragic plane crash at the request of the Ethiopian authorities, had sent its IRT team two days after the accident.

The Ethiopian Airlines plane crash was the second such incident in about five months which involved the MAX 8 model.

In October 2018, a Lion Air flight of the same model had crashed in Indonesia, killing all 189 people on board.

The two crashes led to an indefinite grounding of the MAX 8 aircraft all across the world.
