New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) A 50-year-old man was killed when a miscreant fired at a policeman in the Nand Nagri area of the capital, the police said. Three suspects have been apprehended.
Constable Ajay, posted in the Nand Nagri police station, was passing through the Tanga stand at 11.39 p.m, when he noticed some suspicious persons in a Swift Desire car, said Atul Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).
"On being questioned, they sped away. The constable tried to chase them. During the chase, a man in the car opened fire at the constable, but the bullet hit a passer-by," Thakur said.
The victim, Raju, a resident of Harsh Vihar, was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by doctors.
The police have registered a case under section 302 and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
According to Thakur, the owner of the car had been identified as Mukarram, a resident of Pasonda in Ghaziabad, with a criminal past.
