Chandigarh, Sep 2 (IANS) Congress-ruled Punjab on Monday refused to implement stricter amended Central Motor Vehicles Act at the moment, citing the whopping penalty for traffic violations which would put additional burden on the common man.
"We will take a call after studying the penalty amount that is abnormally high," state Transport Minister Razia Sultana told reporters in Jalandhar city.
The amended Act has penalties up to 10 times more than the previous amounts. It came into effect on September 1.
"We will implement the Act after reviewing the penalties with the Chief Minister," she added.
