Ferrari remains master of Belgian Grand Prix free practice

Francorchamps (Belgium), Aug 31 (IANS) Charles Leclerc clocked the fastest lap in the third and last free practice at the Belgian Grand Prix (GP) on Saturday.

Leclerc's teammate, Sebastian Vettel, came in the second spot to extend Ferrari's reign at the Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps, as the Italian team could top all the three practice sessions, reports Efe news.

Relying on a soft tyre compound, the Monegasque finished Saturday's session with the best time of 1:44.206, just 0.451 seconds ahead of his German colleague.

Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas finished the final practice in third place, with 0.497 seconds off the pace.

He was followed by Renault's Daniel Ricciardo in fourth spot, Red Bull's Max Verstappen in fifth, and Racing Point's Sergio Perez in sixth.

Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes, crashed into the wall at turn 12 around the half-hour mark, but he made it to the seventh spot being 1.360 seconds slower than Leclerc.

World champion Hamilton walked away from the accident without a scratch, and his team's mechanics had to do quick work to fix the damage to his car, so that he could go through qualification later in the day.
