Kolkata, Aug 30 (IANS) A special NIA court on Friday sentenced four Bangladeshi nationals to 10 years imprisonment in the 2014 Khagragarh blast case, while also pronouncing the quantum of punishment for 15 other convicts.
Nineteen accused, including four Bangladeshis and three from Assam, had pleaded guilty before the court here on Wednesday.
A total of 31 people are in custody in connection with the the blast that killed two persons in Burdwan town's Khagragarh on October 2, 2014.
"The court has sentenced the four Bangladeshi convicts to 10 years in prison under the Foreigners' Act. They will be sent back to Bangladesh once their terms are over," a lawyer said.
He said the two women involved in the case have been sentenced to six years in prison and fined Rs 20,000 each.
"The 13 other convicts, including those from Assam, have been sentenced to six to eight years in prison," the lawyer said.
The blast, though of low intensity, had killed two persons involved in making explosives at a rented house in Khagragarh. Their wives were arrested as they tried to remove the bodies.
Soon after the blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took control of the case and traced the involvement of Bangladesh-based terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
It was found that JMB had hatched a plot to create unrest in Bangladesh and were operating modules in West Bengal and other states in the country.
