Plea against petitions opposing Art 370 abrogation

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS) Kashmiri Pandit youth group Roots in Kashmir (RIK) will file an impleadment application against the petitions that demanded a stay on the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, even as it welcomed the Supreme Court's refusal to order a stay on the government's decision.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to give a stay on the government's move and referred the same to a five-judge Constitutional bench.

"We will be filling an impleadment application through our lawyer Bimal Jad Roy in the case soon," Munish Jalali, RIK coordinator said.

In a statement, RIK said: "Roots in Kashmir welcomes the decision of the apex court on refusing to give a stay. Roots in Kashmir believes that abrogation of Article 370 is the first step towards giving all sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir an equal right, and welcome development that will make the state a part of India's growth story."

The group said it had earlier filed caveat against the petitions that demanded a stay on the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.
