New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday remembered his father Rajiv Gandhi, a day before the former Prime Minister's 75th birth anniversary, saying information technology was one of his many "incredible achievements".
"This week we will celebrate my father, Rajiv Gandhi Ji's 75th birth anniversary with memorial events across India. To honour him, each day this week, I will draw attention to one of his many incredible achievements. Today, the information technology revolution," Rahul Gandhi tweeted along with a 55-second video underlining the importance of information technology in the country.
The video highlighted the works in the field of the information technology under the former Prime Minister. It highlighted how the seeds of the IT revolution in the country were sown in 1985 under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi. The video talked how he ensured that India was future-ready.
"He completely digitized telephone lines and brought the railway lines on digital tracks," said the video. The video also featured quotes of the former Prime Minister such as "India missed the Industrial Revolution; it cannot afford to miss the computer revolution".
Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister after the assassination of his mother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. Rajiv Gandhi was himself assassinated in May 1991, while campaigning for the Congress in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur.
