Pak summons Indian Dy HC to flay truce violations

Islamabad, Aug 14 (IANS) Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia and condemned the "unprovoked ceasefire violations" by Indian "occupation forces" along the border in which a civilian was killed.

Director General (South Asia & SAARC), Dr Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian DHC to condemn the "deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas" and the killing on August 13 of Sarfaraz Ahmad, 38, a resident of Laychayal village, in Hot Spring Sector.

He termed the ceasefire violations by India as a threat to regional peace and security that could lead to strategic miscalculation, a Foreign Office statement said.

He alleged that "the Indian occupation forces along the LoC and Working boundary have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars, and automatic weapons, which still continues".

He alleged that the "unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India" has been continuing from 2017 when they committed 1,970 ceasefire violations.

He urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement and permit the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
