Panaji, Aug 13 (IANS) Efficient plumbing methods can help Goa save 25 lakh litres of water annually, the Indian Plumbers' Association said on Tuesday.
Keyur Desai, Secretary of the Goa chapter of Indian Plumbers Association, said that the association, which is an apex body of plumbing professionals in India, has planned to save 130 crore litres of water across the country annually by use of aerator technology which helps prevent excess consumption.
"The association as part of its campaign has committed to save 130 crore litres of water across the country. Accordingly, the IPA Goa chapter has committed to promote the use of aerators for effective water management with an aim to save 25 lakh litres of water this year in Goa," Desai said.
Aerators are small attachments that are fixed inside the water faucet, which controls excess discharge of water.
"Use of aerators offer the same user experience of washing, but with far less discharge of water leading to saving large amounts of water from being wasted," he also said, adding that the IPA in association with the Government Polytechnic College in Panaji was setting up a plumbing laboratory in the state to introduce cutting edge plumbing skills and water saving techniques.
Ashok Joshi, chairman of the Association's Goa Chapter said schools, hotels, hospitals and other institutions would be tapped for the use of aerators in order to promote the water saving technique.
"We will make these aerators available to the public at cost price which will be made available at strategic locations across the state so that the public can procure them and install them in their residences," Joshi said.
Goa consumes 632 million litres of water annually. The state faced a severe water shortage earlier this year due to delayed monsoons.
