New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) The Delhi Police have claimed to have arrested two members of a Bangladeshi gang, who were involved in more than 100 cases of dacoity across India. They had been declared proclaimed offender by a Delhi court, the police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Manik (35) alias Master, the kingpin, and Alamgir (33), were residents of Pirishpur in Bangladesh.
According to the police, they had committed dacoities, burglaries, robberies in several parts of the country. After committing the crime, they used to flee to Bangladesh and return after some time, the police said.
According to G. Ram Gopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime Branch, on a tip-off the police laid a trap and apprehended them from the Sarai Kale Khan area. One country-made pistols, two live cartridges, house breaking implements and a stolen gold chain was recovered from them.
They were previously convicted in many cases in Delhi and NCR, Naik said.
"They used to enter India through the Benapole border and target houses in posh colonies. They used to enter the house late in night by cutting window grill, overpower all residents and loot the valuables. They would even kill the residents in case of resistance," the DCP said.
The gang members mostly resided in and around railway stations or in the forested areas of the cities, Naik added.
