Punjab against SC-monitored probe into sacrilege cases: SAD-BJP

Chandigarh, Aug 5 (IANS) The Akali Dal-BJP combine on Monday blamed the Congress government in Punjab for running away from a Supreme Court-monitored probe into cases of sacrilege in 2015.

Shriomani Akali Dal (SAD) legislative party leader Parminder Singh Dhindsa and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said parliamentary procedures were set aside by rejecting the adjournment motion whose sole objective was to demand a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the sacrilege cases.

"Speaker Rana K.P. Singh rejected the adjournment motion despite the fact that it was delivered to his office well before the deadline for submission of it," Dhindsa said.

Both Dhindsa and Majithia said the very fact that the Congress was running away from discussion on the most sensitive issue of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, indicated that it did not want to truth to come out and did not want justice to be delivered in the case.

The leaders said recent events, including a "directionless inquiry", had made people suspicious about the intentions of the Congress government.

They said it was also shocking that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had openly sided with the Congress while opposing discussion on the adjournment motion.
