Why don’t people get jobs without paying bribes: Pakistan SC

Islamabad, July 26 (IANS) The Pakistan Supreme Court has scolded the authorities in Sindh province and asked them why people are being forced to pay bribes to get jobs.

The court's sharp remarks came while it was hearing a case where 305 people were recruited for 27 seats in the Health Department.

The bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed in the Karachi division of the Supreme Court was hearing the charges of massive rigging in recruitment to the Health Department in Mirpur Khas. The court banned the authorities from making any more recruitments.

Ahmed noted that no job is available without paying bribes. People have to sell their cows and sheep to buy jobs. They pay lakhs to get a job and then they are told that the posts have been filled.

The government admitted in the court that these recruitments were illegal and should be cancelled.

But people who were promised a job said they should be given work and not sent back home.
