New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) Two boxers have died within a week from injuries sustained in the ring. Argentine Hugo Alfredo "Dinamita" Santillan died on Thursday. A few days before that, Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died from injuries he suffered during a fight last Friday.
According to reports, Santillan, a super lightweight, was fighting against Uruguay's Eduardo Javier Abreu in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night. His nose started bleeding in the fourth round, but he proceeded to finish the fight. As the result was being announced, the 23-year-old collapsed and he was taken to a hospital.
He reportedly had successive kidney failures after admission and did not come out of his coma. He had a swelling in his brain and had a surgery for a clot in the brain. But the boxer died from cardiac arrest on Thursday.
Dadashev, on the other hand, was placed in a medically induced coma after his loss to Subriel Matias in an IBF junior welterweight title eliminator bout. He underwent surgery for a bleeding on the brain. Doctors said he had suffered severe brain damage and his death was confirmed on Tuesday.
