New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) The Cyber Crime unit of Delhi Police has arrested a 28-year-old man who duped almost 500 people in the name of installation of mobile towers by two private companies, the police said on Friday.
The accused used to target people by posting advertisements in newspapers and lured them by offering good returns.
He was identified as Ritesh Sharma (28), a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
Anysh Roy, DCP (Cyber Prevention, Awareness and Detention), said: "A case was registered wherein people were cheated online by persons impersonating as employees of a mobile tower installation company".
"The complainant company had alleged some persons were fraudulently using their logos, identical websites, identical emails, letterheads etc. to deceive the public offering them a lucrative return for using their property for installation of mobile towers," he said.
During interrogation, Ritesh revealed that in order to reach more people he decided to target people in Kerala, Assam, Maharashtra etc also, by advertising in newspapers. In the ads he would offer people lucrative terms to rent out their land for installation of mobile towers and would then ask for money as processing fee, etc.
