IPS officer V.K. Singh vows to make Hyderabad garbage-free city

Hyderabad, July 24 (IANS) With the Telangana government transferring him to the printing and stationary department, considered a punishment posting, senior IPS officer V.K. Singh said he would launch a mission to make Hyderabad garbage-free city.

The commissioner of printing and stationary told reporters since he didn't have much work to do, he would start social awareness campaign on cleanliness and work to bring changes in the society.

Singh, introduced many reforms in Telangana jails as the Director General of Prisons, said he would launch a mission to make Hyderabad garbage-free city with the help of people. "After Hyderabad, I will go to mandals and villages," said the IPS officer of 1987 batch.

Singh said the transfer came as a surprise to him when on leave. "I don't know why I was transferred," he said. Denying that he might resign following transfer to an insignificant post, Singh said he would work to serve people in any post.

He said the 'Bangaru Telangana' could not be achieved by politicians, but hastened to add he was not against the government policies. The 'Bangaru Telangana' or golden Telangana is the slogan of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

On printing and stationary department, Singh said he would write to the government to shut it as there was no work. The department was incurring Rs 50 crore losses a year, he added.
