Reacting to criticism over her smoking scene in the teaser of Telugu film 'Manmadhudu 2', actress Rakul Preet said, taking the example of Shahid Kapoor and his film Kabir Singh, "In 'Kabir Singh', if Shahid Kapoor is smoking in the film it does not make him a smoker."
Rakul Preet Singh added that an actor smoking on screen doesn’t mean they are endorsing it to their fans. "People should dissociate from what we are playing on-screen. It is different and it is a story of that one person," she continued.
This response from Rakul came after the team of 'Manmadhudu-2' released a special video featuring Rakul Preet Singh as 'Avanthika'. The featurette shows Rakul as a gentle and quiet young woman in the beginning but later reveals her to be a street smart person who knows how to use her sexuality to get what she wants. One scene, which shows Rakul smoking, has particularly drawn ire from some.
The film stars Nagarjuna Akkineni in the lead role. A sequel to super hit flick Manmadhudu, the film marks the first time collaboration of Rakul and Nagarjuna as a pair on screen. This is Rahul’s second directorial project after 'Chi La Sow'.
