New Delhi, June 26 (IANS) The works of Joel Rendon, considered one of the most outstanding engravers in Mexico, are currently on display at the India International Centre (IIC) here.
The exhibition 'Joel Rendon: Mexican Master Engraver' showcases his print work using various traditional and contemporary techniques in black and white as well as in colour.
On display are traditional motifs such as snakes, skulls, rituals and gods and goddesses from Mexican history.
The exhibition has been organised by the Mexican Embassy.
The work of Joel Rendon, 52, combines the longstanding Mexican tradition of relief print, contemporary techniques and motives linked to the cultural heritage of the country.
His popular iconography draws from the best of the printmaking tradition of Mexico and elements of the contemporary era.
"Rendon calls himself a popular artist and engraving activist, who works to create a dialogue between art and the people.
"He has devoted his life to generate a movement to revalue engraving in Mexico and abroad, by opening spaces to promote print-making among younger generations through audio-visual media, graphic design, murals and television programs," the Embassy said in a Wednesday release.
The exhibition is open for public viewing till July 2.
