Chandigarh, June 25 (IANS) A police official or an authorised official in Haryana can now stop and search a vehicle used or intended to be used for transportation of "cows or beef".
A cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, on Tuesday amended the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act of 2015. The Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan (Amendment) Bill, 2019, was more strict and practical, a government spokesperson told IANS.
As per the amendment, any police officer, not below the rank of Sub-Inspector, or any person authorised by the government can stop and search a vehicle used or intended to be used for cow or beef transportation.
He may seize "cow or beef" if he suspects that any provision of this Act has been, is being or is about to be contravened, along with the vehicle in which such cow or beef is found.
Thereafter, he may take all measures necessary for securing the production of cow or beef so seized in a court. He is also authorised to enter and search any premises used or intended to be used for slaughter of cow and seize cow or beef and collect evidence from the spot, added the spokesperson.
